Rudgar's later request rewards a Tool Upgrade Medal. Start with his habitat expansion task.

The Hardwood amount may vary between game versions. Check Rudgar’s active journal request before gathering; deliver the listed items to Rudgar, not a shop.
The June Stronger Tools game screen shows 35 Hardwood, 40 Silver Ore and 250 Fiber. Compare each item and quantity with your current journal; this older screen is not a requirement for every save. Wood and Hardwood are different items.

Step-by-step walkthrough
- Give Rudgar 50 Wood and 20 Stone for the earlier habitat expansion; that hand-in unlocks the shop's first habitat page.
- Check Rudgar's later message outside your home and speak with him. Look for Stronger Tools and its material list before leaving for the mine.
- Gather the three listed materials; carry the full request before returning.
- Hand the materials to Rudgar and collect the Tool Upgrade Medal.
- Read the medal description and placement prompt before expecting an effect.
When to start
Begin collecting for this request after the expansion; check that Rudgar has actually asked for the materials.
Materials and bag space
If your journal asks for 40 Silver Ore here and 75 for A Curious Mixture, reserve 115 before either hand-in. Recalculate if either request differs.
Route landmarks
For ore, head west to the lumberjack, cross the bridge, then go north to the mine.
What you get
The reward is the medal. Use its current description for tool effects; do not assume a separate upgrade tier for each tool.
If you get stuck
Materials ready but no hand-in? Match the active Stronger Tools request to your carried items: Wood is not Hardwood. If that request is absent, finish Rudgar’s earlier expansion and check his later letter/conversation before mining again. If it is active, compare all three quantities and speak to Rudgar, not a shopkeeper.
Version notes
The August update added a bigger watering can. Read its own item prompt rather than treating it as this medal's effect.
Completion check
After giving Rudgar the full list, check that Stronger Tools is no longer awaiting materials and that you received the Tool Upgrade Medal. Merely collecting the items is not completion.
